18th Viking Congress - Denmark August 5-12, 2017, followed by a post-congress tour
In 2017 Denmark is host to the 18th Viking Congress. The history of the Viking Congresses goes back to 1946. Since this early beginning, the objective has been to create a common forum for the most current research and theories within Viking-Age studies, and to enhance communication and collaboration between leading scholars within the field, crossing disciplinary and geographical borders.
The 18th Viking Congress will commence with a two-day session in Copenhagen and continue, after a cross-country excursion, in the town of Ribe in Jylland.
A post-congress tour will offer delegates the opportunity to visit major Viking sites in northern Jylland.
The Viking Congress is a multinational, interdisciplinary meeting for leading scholars of Viking studies in the fields of Archaeology, History, Philology, Place-name studies, Numismatics, Runology and other disciplines relevant to the study of the Viking Age.
The 18th Viking Congress is open to researchers in all disciplined and countries. The congress will accommodate c. 150 delegates, selected by the National Committees of the Congress and by open call from the Organizing Committee.
Deadline for submission of abstracts for review: 15. August 2016.
The Congress Fee will be c. DKK 2.500 per person, DKK 1.750 for students.
